Happy #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience !

My local bookstore (Rudolph Girls Books) is having a Galentine's event on February 15th, and this book is the topic. With my recent discovery of my love for Ali Hazelwood's writing, I was delighted to give this a read and review.

Loathe to Love You is a collection of 3 novellas that had been previously published for kindle but made available in print for the first time just last month. The novellas follow the stories of three friends from grad school - Mara, Sadie, and Hannah.

Under One Roof (5 out of 5 stars)
Mara, an environmental engineer, moves to DC to start her dream job at the EPA. She just inherited half of a house from her mentor, who left the other half to a nephew, who happens to be a big-oil lawyer. Things start out rocky for the two roommates, but the forced proximity and enemies-to-lovers tropes never fail.

Stuck with You (5 out of 5 stars)
Sadie, a civil engineer in New York City, gets stuck in an elevator with another engineer at a competing company with whom she just happened to have a night of passion a few weeks before. After a significant betrayal the day after their rendevous, she blocked his number; now, she has no choice but to hear him out. This novella has the forced proximity trope with the elevator and a good old-fashioned misunderstanding.

Below Zero (5 out of 5 stars)
When Hannah, a NASA aerospace engineer, is trapped and injured during a snowstorm in Norway while doing research, the last person she expects to make the trek for her rescue is the man who tried to shut down her project from the start. His betrayal came as a surprise with their unique history, and Hannah is hell-bent on proving him wrong. Hannah must reflect on her attitude toward relationships in this tale of friends to enemies to lovers, with a twist of misunderstanding.

Final Thoughts...

I really enjoyed these novellas and the way they were intertwined. Of course, each story could stand on its own, but publishing them together as a collection adds value to the overall backstory and depth of the characters.

For example, after the first story, about Mara, I already knew who Sadie and Hannah were and understood a bit about their personalities. Likewise, while reading their stories, I learned a bit more about Mara. In addition, each tale included a bit of backstory about their time in grad school, further solidifying their history and friendship.

If you are a fan of Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Contemporary Romance with a bit of spice, and especially if you like themes of women in STEM - give these novellas a read!
