Heir of Fire (ToG #3)
by Sarah J. Maas
5 out of 5 stars
*This review contains some slight spoilers for book #1 and #2 of the series. If you plan to read this series, which I definitely recommend that you do, I recommend waiting until my series wrap up in a few weeks to read my thoughts on the series as a whole instead of each individual book *
In my previous review of Crown of Midnight (ToG #2), I stated that I knew better than to ship anyone early on in the series -- referring to the Chaol and Dorian love triangle. So glad that I didn't -- but now I don't know how I will contain myself from shipping a certain pair after reading Heir of Fire.
Book three of the series continues when assassin Celaena Sardothien, the King's Champion, sets off for Wendlyn with orders to assassinate the royal family.
At the end of Crown of Midnight, Chaol orchestrates her safe passage by selling the idea to his visiting father and the king for the assassin to infiltrate Wendlyn. He breaks his own heart and lets her go to get Celaena out of the castle and out of danger, with hopes that she would find Fae allies who can help her.
We are introduced to many new characters in this book, and the multiple POV allows us to keep up with the goings on in Rifthold and follow the story of Manon Blackbeak - heir to the Blackbeak Witch Clan.
I was intrigued by the friendship dynamics between Chaol and Aedion and how after Celaena's departure, things drastically changed between Chaol and Dorian on the surface.
This is definitely my favorite book of the series so far - so many things happened, and I loved seeing the character development and new relationships starting to spark.
I decided to read this series in a non-chronological order -- so I am reading The Assassin's Blade next.
