February Wrap-Up & Thoughts
by Jessica Jones
It was a pretty good reading month for me - I finished 7 books. Check out the highlights of my February reads below - I will share my ratings and a few thoughts about each. The titles will link to my full reviews for reference.
Genre: Mystery
Page Count: 240 pages
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good who-dun-it. This is such a cozy series to read, and I can't wait to see what Juneau Black has in store for us in the next book - Mirror Lake!
Loathe to Love You by Ali Hazelwood
Genre: Romance
Page Count: 370 pages
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: I really enjoyed these novellas and the way they were intertwined. Of course, each story could stand on its own, but publishing them together as a collection adds value to the overall backstory and depth of the characters.
If you are a fan of Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Contemporary Romance with a bit of spice, and especially if you like themes of women in STEM - give these novellas a read!
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Romance
Page Count: 273 pages
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
Thoughts: I think this is a fantastic YA read. I liked the introspective themes and the focus on the characters' personal growth. If you enjoy YA or romance without blatant spice, or you just want an upbeat read with fantasy and sci-fi themes - give Wild Souls a try!
The Valentine's Hate by Sidney Halston
Genre: Romance
Page Count: 272 pages
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: I love a good enemies-to-lovers when the banter fuels the spice, and the fauxmance makes them second guess every move.
This is the book for you if you are looking for a light, fluffy rom-com (especially for Valentine's Day).
The Willow Rise Six by Alan Leuthe
Genre: Western Fiction
Page Count: 280 pages
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys westerns or books with mystery and heist. This book was very well written, and I could tell that the author enjoyed writing this - you could see that in the development of the characters and the care and detail throughout the story.
Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey
Genre: Romance
Page Count: 384 pages
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: Overall, I think that this story didn't really 'work' for me because I felt the characters should have been much younger than they actually were - emotional-maturity-wise. I liked the spice, but honestly, if that hadn't been introduced so early in the book, I am not sure I would have finished this one.
I have higher hopes for Natalie's and August's story "Unfortunately Yours," which comes out in June.
It's One of Us by J.T. Ellison
Genre: Thriller
Page Count: 400 pages
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Thoughts: I think this was my favorite book that I have read so far by J.T. Ellison, and one of my favorite thrillers of all time. The characters felt so real to me; they had relatable problems, so much so that I found myself thinking about them throughout the day.
Thank you, J.T. Ellison, for writing something real and raw. Thank you for sharing the story of your own experiences with infertility in your author's note, and for making those who are going through it or who have gone through it feel seen. It's a lonely road, and you are using your platform so others won't have to feel that way.
