Cold Clay: A Shady Hollow Mystery
by Juneau Black
5 out of 5 stars
I was introduced to the Shady Hollow series when my husband went to our local bookstore and asked for some recommendations for some books to purchase as part of my Christmas gift.
It meant a lot to me that he would take the time to ask for recommendations and read the back cover blurbs. He knows that the ladies who own Rudolph Girls Books know a bit about my tastes, so he asked them for their input.
I was so excited when I opened the first book of the series, Shady Hollow (review here), for Christmas. I had not heard of this series before - but the fact that the characters were all woodland creatures was very intriguing to me.
I was not halfway through the first book, when I ordered the rest of the series to date from Rudolph Girls. This series will always be an auto-buy for me!
The books take place in a town called Shady Hollow. We follow reporter Vera Vixen, a sly fox who takes her job's investigative aspect very seriously. Vera does the town a service by keeping folks up to date with the current happenings, and with the help of her friend Lenore, a raven, solves the odd murder case.
When bones are found by some Rabbits replacing an old tree in Cold Clay Orchard, Vera must do some digging of her own to exonerate a friend and town fixture, who is taken into custody.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good who-dun-it. This is such a cozy series to read, and I can't wait to see what Juneau Black has in store for us in the next book - Mirror Lake!
