"The Mighty Sun" - a Poem
by Jessica Jones
The sun rises each morning in a grand gesture, rousing the rooster to crow.
Although beautifully feathered, he is not the one who lays the eggs.
The sun will set each eve. Another great spectacle, becoming the subject of many photographs.
Nonetheless, I find myself more enamored with the moon. It remains present all the while, hidden behind the sun's glaring rays.
You won't see it come or go, distracted instead by the grand rise and set, but it is always there. While the sun's beauty and utility are undeniable, the moon provides stability.
We must never forget those who are perpetually present, even if they don't shine as brightly or crow as loudly, for they are the foundation of mankind.

In a world that values flashiness and attention-grabbing behavior, it's easy to overlook the importance of the little things that keep us going. In my poem "The Mighty Sun," we're reminded of the crucial role played by the subtle, steady actions that are often unnoticed.
The poem starts by describing the sun's grandeur as it rises and sets each day, commanding attention and becoming the subject of countless photographs. But then it shifts focus to the moon, which remains unseen in the sky during the day.
"The Mighty Sun" inspires us to redirect our attention from the flashy to the subtle and to appreciate the things that are always present but often overlooked. It encourages us to recognize the importance of steady, dependable actions that may not be as attention-grabbing but are critical for maintaining stability and harmony.
This message is particularly relevant in a world where we're often told to chase after the next big thing, to be louder and brighter than everyone else. However, in doing so, we risk losing sight of the things that truly matter - the people, the moments, and the small, consistent actions that make a real difference in our lives.
So the next time you're tempted to chase after the next big thing, take a moment to reflect on the message of this poem. Remember the importance of appreciating the subtle steadiness that keeps us going day after day. Because it's these things that truly make life worth living.
