Love on the Brain
by Ali Hazelwood
4 out of 5 stars
After reading Ali Hazelwood's debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, to kick off the New Year, I was very excited to learn that my local bookstore was having a Galentine's Day event in a few weeks around Loathe to Love You (Hazelwood's collection of STEMinist novellas that was just published in print a few weeks ago).
Naturally, I needed to read Love on the Brain before the event too, so here I am - exhausted after reading this one in one sitting last night, finishing up at about 1:30 AM.
I found this story to be similar to The Love Hypothesis. The dynamics between characters are alike, along with the supporting characters having their own little love-story subplot.
Based on other reviews that I read, some folks don't like when an author writes similar stories. However, I personally think that specializing in women-in-STEM contemporary romance novels is a good thing - and not a bad one.
When you break it down - the books are different in many ways, but because Hazelwood focuses on women in science - some things will naturally be similar.
Love on the Brain follows Bee, who has a Ph.D. in neuroscience, as she makes a cross-country move for a groundbreaking NASA project she was picked to co-lead with none other than her archnemesis from grad school - Levi.
As you can imagine, things get interesting as the project gets underway. Levi and Bee are forced to work through old grudges to make the project they are both passionate about successful.
If you are a fan of banter, enemies to lovers, miscommunication (which I am usually not, but this was fine), and loveable supporting characters, give Love on the Brain a read!
